A Teachable Moment in Our History
THE QUILTED HISTORY announces and presents Dr. Michele Wright as one of three special honorees selected to receive the 2016 Inaugural "Rhythm of Life" Quilted Legacy Award during "The Rhythm of HBCUs Right Here at Home: A Teachable Moment in Our History" Extravaganza.
This Educational inspired event will feature five Nationally renowned HBCU Choirs across multiple states including: Tuskegee University (Alabama), Alcorn State University (Mississippi), Mississippi Valley State University, Southern University (Louisiana), and the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff.
Dr. Wright, a native of Tuskegee, Alabama and current resident of Little Rock, Arkansas, will receive this distinguished award alongside Professional Musician & National Recording Artist Mr. Ron McMillon (Denver, Colorado) and Dr. Claud Anderson, President of PowerNomics Corporation of America, Inc., The Harvest Institute, and WaterLand Fisheries, Inc. and the author of the Affirmative Action Bill (Washington, DC).
This event will be held on February 18th (9 am - 6 pm), February 19th (9 am - 6 pm), and February 20th (1 pm - 4 pm) at the El Dorado Conference Center in El Dorado, Arkansas. The Quilted Legacy Awards Banquet will culminate this event on Saturday, February 20, 2016 at 6 pm.
This historical event is hosted by The Quilted History (Ms. Carolyn Williams, Founder, Director and Curator), a nonprofit 501(c)3 Museum and Cultural Organization. Public and private schools, churches, and the general public are invited to attend and participate.

Dr. Michele Wright returns back to her Alma mater, Tuskegee University, where she not only celebrates her 25th Anniversary from graduating with a Bachelor of Science and High Honors in Electrical Engineering as well as "Electrical Engineering Student of the Year" in May 1990, but with the privilege of joining two other highly distinguishable "Michelle's" (FLOTUS Michelle Obama, First Lady of the United States and Admiral Michelle Howard, Vice Chief of Naval Operations) on the roster of nationally prominent speakers confirmed for Tuskegee University's 2015 Commencement Events.
FLOTUS Michelle (with two "L's") Obama has been secured as the official Tuskegee University's "2015 Spring Commencement Speaker" (Saturday, May 9th, 11 a.m., Daniel "Chappie" James Center). Admiral Michelle (with two "L's") has been selected as the official Guest Speaker for Tuskegee University's 2015 Pre-Commencement "ROTC Commissioning Ceremony" (Friday, May 8th, 1 p.m., Tuskegee University Chapel). And Dr. Michele (with one "L") Wright will serve as the official Keynote Speaker for Tuskegee University's 2015 Pre-Commencement "Order of the Engineer Ceremony" (Friday, May 8th, 3 p.m., Luther Foster Hall Auditorium) in honor and recognition of all Engineering (Aerospace Science Engineering, Aerospace Studies, Chemical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Materials Science & Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, and Military Science) student graduates.
The Order of the Engineer Ceremony is when the College of Engineering officially inducts its graduating seniors. The Order of the Engineer was initiated in the United States to foster a spirit of pride and responsibility in the engineering profession, to bridge the gap between training and experience, and to present to the public a visible symbol identifying the engineer. During this Tuskegee?s ceremony, Dr. Michele Wright's speech will coincide with the College of Engineering graduates taking an oath to practice ethical engineering.

"Dear Dr. Wright,
Thank you again for coming today and sharing your strength and wisdom with our group. I just met with the girls to have our reflection time, and I want you to know how much they gleaned from you today. Their young minds soaked it all in! We had a great discussion, and then the girls wrote what they wanted to remember from your talk and how they could apply it to their own lives. They were to write as much as they wished, but there was no requirement other than they write something. After they were finished they were free to go back to class. Some girls took more time than others, but all spent time in quiet reflection and then took advantage of the time to record their thoughts. I can see positive things already happening in these young lives!
Thank you for taking time for the other girls who are not members of our group. I know it meant a lot to each of them. I wrote to one mother and sent the picture I took. She was very grateful to you for spending time helping her daughter. The student says she feels more confident now and is ready to do her presentation. I'm not sure if she will present on Monday or not. If you would like to check with Dr. Freeman to see if Ms. Jones is here and come to be with that student that would be great! But if you can't, I think she will be okay.
I can hardly wait to see what God has in store for you next! I'll be praying with confidence that it will be something wonderful!"
