Dr. Michele R. Wright, Milton Pitts Crenchaw Aviation Training Academy (MPCATA) Board Vice President, was joined by MPCATA Board President Terence L. Bolden (via Skype) and Board Members to host the 3rd Annual MPCATA Awards Banquet & Birthday Celebration on Saturday, January 17, 2015 at 7 p.m. at Philander Smith College's Kendall Nugent Center located at 900 W. Daisy L. Gatson Bates Drive in Little Rock.

The community and VIP constituents came from afar to support this historical event in honor of Dr. Milton P. Crenchaw's legacy and in celebration of his 96th birthday. Dr. Crenchaw, of the original Tuskegee Airmen, was one of the first African Americans in the country and the first from Arkansas to be successfully trained by the federal government as a civilian licensed pilot. He trained hundreds of cadet pilots while at Alabama?s Tuskegee Institute in the 1940s and was the catalyst for the first successful flight program at Philander Smith College in Little Rock AR (1947-1953). His combined service record extends over forty years of federal service from 1941 to 1983 with the U.S. Army Air Corps and later the U.S. Air Force. Born January 13, 1919, Dr. Crenchaw is one of the oldest surviving Tuskegee Airmen members.

MPCATA's mission is to provide young people an opportunity to pursue Aviation & Aerospace careers. As such, this event was used to introduce the launch of the Milton P. Crenchaw Aviation Scholarship as well as to introduce and induct eight Cloverdale Academy Middle School students as the very first group of MPCATA Civilian Cadets. The students stood alongside MPCATA Board Member Judge Berlin Jones who were joined by Commander Colonel James D. Dryjanski and Vice Commander Colonel Keith Green of the 314th Airlift Wing, Little Rock Air Force Base, to recite the following oath:

On the shoulders of legends I stand Dr. Milton P. Crenchaw and the Tuskegee Airmen's legacy to uphold Those pioneers whose sacrifices I now reap the benefits I pledge to honor, respect, and commit my best effort Remembering it is their legacy which allows me to take flight and pay it forward

~ Written by Terence L. Bolden on behalf and proprietary to MPCATA
This event opened with a prayer by Dr. Michele Wright's husband, Deacon Terry Wright, and with Words of Reflection and an original poem (titled "MILTON CRENCHAW: THE MAN OF THE HOUR in a TIME-LESS WORLD") written and shared by Dr. Patricia Washington McGraw, who is also featured as one of 85 outstanding women achievers (pgs. 157-159) in Dr. Michele Wright's book "DEAR SUCCESS SEEKER: Wisdom from Outstanding Women" (Atria/Simon & Schuster) which received the 2012 USA "Best Books" Award for "Best New Non-Fiction."

The keynote speaker for this event was Dr. Terry L. Esper, Executive Director of the Sam M. Walton College of Business Supply Chain Management Research Center. And the honorees for the night were: Cloverdale Aerospace Technology Conversion Charter Middle School who received the MPCATA Community Partnership Award, Lieutenant Colonel Billy G. Graham who received the Willie C. Smith Aviation Service Award, Captain Marlon Dewitt Green who posthumously received the MPCATA Courage in Aviation Award, Senator U.L. "RIP" Gooch who received the Milton P. Crenchaw Lifetime Achievement Award, and Ms. Tami East who received the MPCATA President's Award.

"YOU CAN IF YOU THINK YOU CAN"
Written by ~ C. W. Longenecker ~

If you think you are beaten, you are
If you think you dare not, you don't,
If you like to win, but you think you can't
It is almost certain you won't.

If you think you'll lose, you're lost
For out of the world we find,
Success begins with a fellow's will
It's all in the state of mind.

If you think you are outclassed, you are
You've got to think high to rise,
You've got to be sure of yourself before
You can ever win a prize.

Life's battles don't always go
To the stronger or faster man,
But soon or late the man who wins
Is the man WHO THINKS HE CAN!

Dr. Wright, after you left, my secretary asked me, "Who is that lady?" I told her that I really can't explain to you who she is. She then told me that she's going to have to write you a letter to say something. The picture of you and the girls told a very impactful story. I showed that picture to my entire staff Friday [March 14, 2014] during an inservice.
